Chartered: April 16th, 1979
The
Pilot Club of Freeport was chartered in April 16th, 1979 with 23 members, and was sponsored by the
Pilot Club of Nassau.
The Club immediately became an affiliate of Pilot INternational, glopal service organization established in 1921 and a member of Clubs of Evolving Districts (CoED). The club became a member of the
Bahamas District when the District was chartered in 2004. The focus of Pilot is Brain Related Disorders causing us to use our talents and resources to support programs benefitting people with brain injuries, Alzherimer's, Autism or Developmenta Disabilities among others. Caregivers of these persons are recognized and encouraged through our
Pick Me Up (PMU) Program. .
Our community service partners have included: The Salvation Army, Grand Bahama Home for the Aged, Raybertha's House for the Aged, Grans Bahama Cancer Association, Burrows House for the Aged, Beacon School, Genesis Academy, Special Olympics, The British Legion, Columbus House for Girls and Boys, RMH Pediatric Ward and the Grand Bahama Children's Home.
Over the years we have hosted youth leadership conferences, funded scholarships, donated books to primary schools, held community free fairs, 'Brainminders in the Park' presentations and supported hurricane relief programs.
